How we compared tennis string tension apps
We applied the same criteria before making recommendations: physical measurement, tennis support, capture procedure and feedback, saved trends, equipment context, playing context, specialist tools, platform, disclosed storage/privacy, and cost model. Recommendations below are our interpretation of documented features. They do not mean we installed or usability-tested every app.
Which apps qualify?
A main-comparison app must have a current official download listing, explicitly support tennis, and document how the phone measures or estimates tension from the physical racquet. All seven included apps document sound-based tension measurement plus some form of saved reading, history, or tension-change tracking. A field for entering reference tension, a predicted string-life indicator or a manually logged DT number is not enough.
We distinguish an advertised feature from a validated result. “Not identified in current listing” means the documentation did not establish the feature; it does not mean the app cannot have it. Best tennis string tension apps for Android
String Tension AI is currently iPhone-only. For Android, inspect stringster for tennis 2.0 for its documented customer/racquet workflow, or StringTension by MalbyTech for its stated locally stored tennis records. Both have official Google Play listings documenting audio-based tennis tension measurement.
The two StringTension products are not cross-platform editions of one app. Do not download an old RacquetTune APK on the assumption that it represents current official support. Use the official listings linked above and confirm installation eligibility on your own device.
What about other string-management apps?
A string log can be valuable without measuring a tap: it can preserve requested tensions, string jobs, hours, notes or readings supplied by another instrument. We excluded the following from the measurement comparison after checking their listings on September 7, 2026.
- SweetSpot: Racket Tension (Gage Fassam): Documents microphone measurement for badminton; explicit tennis support was not established.
- String Master - Tennis Log (ORYONG KIM): Documents setup, play and string-life records; a phone-based physical tension measurement workflow was not established.
- String GOAT - for tennis (YOSEOP YOON): Documents recorded tension, predicted lifespan and watch sessions; the listing does not establish that the phone measures tension acoustically.
String GOAT’s phrase “record tension measurements” does not by itself establish acoustic capture. The distinction is eligibility for this article, not a judgment of the usefulness of either logging product.
Which tennis string tension app is most accurate?
We cannot responsibly name one. No public head-to-head laboratory study reviewed for this article establishes a universal winner across these apps. An accuracy comparison needs a defined quantity, reference method, controlled racquets and setups, repeated measurements, and reported uncertainty. A marketing phrase is not that evidence.
Correct setup inputs and stringbed acoustics matter; different models and calibration choices can report differently. Reference tension is the machine pull setting during installation. A modeled current-tension estimate describes the installed stringbed. A small difference between those numbers is not an independent validation result.
Ratings and reviews describe experiences; they do not establish accuracy, repeatability, machine equivalence or scientific validity. We omit stars and review counts, use no negative-review anecdotes, and give our own app no scientific advantage from its marketing.

What should you look for in a tension app?
A routine you can repeat
Read the tap and phone-placement instructions, check required head size, string, gauge and pattern inputs, and repeat complete measurements before saving a baseline. Quality feedback helps you follow a procedure; it does not certify absolute accuracy. Our measurement guide explains the practical routine.
A history that respects each string job
Check whether you can identify the racquet, start a new baseline after restringing, and separate old jobs. Keep machine reference settings as their own records. Never splice two apps’ readings into one series as though their numbers were interchangeable. When switching apps, start a new fresh-string baseline.
Setup detail that matches your equipment
For hybrids, check how mains and crosses are recorded. Two-sided input support is not proof that an app measures installed mains and crosses independently. The hybrid guide covers that setup distinction. Use the tension checker only with compatible baseline/current readings from one method.
Only the extra tools you will use
Decide whether sessions, notes, customers, multiple sports, reports or weight calculations will actually change your routine. Check export formats and paid access before building a large history. A share image is not the same as a table of measurements you can move elsewhere.
Clear platform, cost and privacy boundaries
iPhone compatibility does not establish iPad support. Free download does not establish unlimited use. Apple says its privacy labels are developer-provided and not verified by Apple; Google’s data-safety information is also developer-provided. We describe those disclosures without ranking apps as “more private.” On-device audio and optional cloud records are separate questions.
For String Tension AI specifically, audio is processed on-device without being stored or uploaded, while PRO offers iCloud and PDF/CSV reports. Apple Health-imported session records are excluded from sync and exported data; see the product overview and privacy policy for the precise boundaries.

Can I compare readings from two different tension apps?
Do not merge their histories as if the numbers were interchangeable. Models, inputs and calibration can differ. If switching, establish a new fresh-string baseline in the new app and keep the previous series separate.
Can a phone tension app match a stringing machine?
It may display a similar number, but agreement alone proves little. Reference tension is the machine’s installation setting; the app estimates a property of the installed stringbed. They are different quantities, even when displayed in the same units.
Do tension apps work without extra hardware?
The included acoustic measurement workflows use the phone microphone and the racquet. No dedicated tension sensor is documented as required for that measurement. Follow each app’s tapping instructions; separate equipment-calculation tools may require additional inputs or measurements.
Do I need to remove a dampener before measuring?
Follow the selected app’s instructions. RacquetTuner explicitly says to remove dampeners. For acoustic checks, use a consistent setup and the documented tap procedure rather than changing accessories between baseline and later readings.
Can I use an app to decide when to restring?
Use the trend as one input alongside playing hours, control, feel, comfort and visible wear. A single reading or a universal percentage threshold cannot decide every player’s restring timing.
Should I switch apps if my reading differs from the machine setting?
That difference alone is not a reason to switch. Check the quantity, saved setup, calibration and repeatability first. Choose another app if its documented workflow better fits you, and begin a separate baseline when you do.
What is the difference between measuring tension and logging string tension?
Measurement uses a signal from the physical racquet, such as tap sound, to estimate its current state. Logging stores a value supplied by the user or another instrument. Both can be useful, but a record field does not establish an in-app measurement method.
