Racquet String Tension Ranges
Look up the string tension range the manufacturer publishes for your racquet, then send it straight to the tension calculator. A frame range is the span of stringing-machine settings the maker recommends for that frame, not a measurement of how tight your strings are today.
What a racquet's tension range tells you
Each manufacturer publishes a recommended range of reference tensions for its frames, for example 46–55 lbs (21–25 kg) for the current Babolat Pure Aero. Choose your stringing-machine setting inside that range. Where inside it depends on your string construction and what you want from the stringbed, which is what the tension calculator works out from the same numbers.
- It is a reference setting. The range describes what the stringer sets on the machine. Your installed stringbed starts below that and keeps relaxing with time and play, so measure your own baseline rather than comparing readings with this number.
- It is frame-specific. Head size and string pattern change how the same setting feels, which is why the same family can publish different ranges for different versions.
- Some makers add a middle value. Prince's Japanese pages print a low, middle and high figure, and Völkl publishes 55 ± 5 lbs. This table stores the range only.

One source per frame: the manufacturer's own publication
Every range in this table was copied from the manufacturer's own product or specification page, or from the stringing-instruction sheet the manufacturer publishes for that frame, on the access date shown in the row, and each row quotes the text it came from. Nothing is estimated from a frame's family, a retailer listing or a professional player's setup. A frame whose manufacturer did not publish a usable range is left out, which is why some popular models are missing from this edition.
- Units. lbs come first. Where the manufacturer prints kg alongside lbs, as Völkl, HEAD and most Babolat pages do, those kg values are shown as published; otherwise kg is converted from lbs and rounded to one decimal. Each row's source notes which.
- Regional pages. Tecnifibre, Prince and Dunlop ranges are cited from each brand's official Japanese site, which prints the range in its specification table. Wilson head sizes come from Wilson Japan's product pages, or Wilson's New Zealand or Taiwan pages where Japan does not list the frame. A few Babolat frames not sold on Babolat's US site are cited from its UK site, which states head size in cm² only; the row notes the matching sq in figure Babolat prints elsewhere. Japanese-market versions can differ from frames sold elsewhere, so check the range printed on your own racquet as well.
- HEAD stringing sheets. HEAD's product pages list head size and string pattern but not a tension range, so each HEAD row quotes the recommended string tension from the stringing-instruction PDF linked on that product page; the row's source note gives the PDF link. HEAD frames whose sheet was missing, belonged to a different model year, or printed kg and lbs figures that disagree are left out.
- Store widgets are not specs. Text from a stringing-service add-on on a brand's web store is not treated as a frame specification, because the same wording can appear on every frame in the store. Wilson's regional stores, for example, show one identical 50–60 lbs line on every stringable frame, so Wilson rows never quote it: Wilson's ranges come from the stringing-instruction sheets Wilson publishes for each frame. Yonex, by contrast, prints a "Stringing Advice" row in each model's own specification table: most of its 95–100 sq in frames share 45–60 lbs, but the lighter 105 sq in EZONE 105 and ASTREL 105 carry a lower 40–55 lbs band, which is how the table tells a model-specific figure from store boilerplate.
- Retailer-listed ranges. Rows rest on one of two kinds of manufacturer evidence: the range printed on the maker's own product or specification page, or the range on the stringing-instruction sheet the maker publishes for that frame. A third kind, a range listed on a retailer's product page (Tennis Warehouse), appears only inside some rows' source details as context, with its own link and access date. It is not a manufacturer specification, never replaces the manufacturer range, and is not used by Use in calculator, Save to my log or the frame counts. Where the two differ, the manufacturer's figure is the one shown.
- Generations change. Ranges can change between versions of the same model. Match the generation in the row with the cosmetic and the specification of your racquet before using the number.

Racquet tension range FAQ
What does a racquet's recommended string tension range mean?
It is the span of reference tensions, the settings a stringer uses on the stringing machine, that the manufacturer recommends for that frame. It is not a measurement of the finished stringbed, which starts below the machine setting and relaxes further with time and play. Where a row's source details also show a retailer-listed range, that figure comes from a retailer's product page and is context only; the manufacturer range is the one the table and the calculator use.
Where inside the range should I start?
That depends on your string construction and what you want from the stringbed. The tension calculator intersects the frame range with published construction guidance and your playing goal to suggest a starting range to test, and you can open it from any row with Use in calculator.
Why is my racquet missing from the table?
A frame is listed only when the manufacturer publishes a tension range for it, on its own product or specification page or, for HEAD and Wilson, on the manufacturer's stringing-instruction sheet for that frame. Frames without a sourced range are left out rather than estimated, including Wilson frames whose head size no Wilson product page states. The identical range shown on Wilson's web stores is stringing-service text, not a frame specification, so it is never used. Check the range printed on the racquet's throat or inner hoop instead.
Why do some sources point to Japanese websites?
For Tecnifibre, Prince and Dunlop, the brand's official Japanese site prints the recommended tension in its specification table, so those rows cite it. Japanese-market versions can differ from frames sold elsewhere, so compare the head size, pattern and weight in the row with your racquet and its printed range.
