Racquet setup guide · EZONE 100, eighth generation
Yonex EZONE 100: Build a Setup You Can Trust
Short answer: For the eighth-generation EZONE 100, Yonex publishes 45–60 lbs (about 20.4–27.2 kg) and recommends POLYTOUR PRO, POLYTOUR STRIKE and REXIS SPEED. Start with the construction that fits your needs, then tune depth. With no useful baseline, 50 lbs (22.7 kg) for an appropriate full-poly trial or 54 lbs (24.5 kg) for a multifilament trial are reasonable editorial starting points within that range—not verified optima.
Make the version explicit
Eighth generation, 100 sq in, standard length
This guide covers the 300 g unstrung EZONE 100 with a 16×19 pattern. Yonex’s global product page identifies it as 08EZ100; the US page calls it the eighth generation and lists model EZ08100. Both publish 45–60 lbs; the approximate conversion is 20.4–27.2 kg.
EZONE 98, 100L, 100SL and extended-length versions are separate frames. A paint color is not enough to identify the construction. When moving from an older EZONE, record both versions and carry your familiar string into the first comparison so that a frame change is not mixed with an unnecessary string change.
Use the manufacturer range lookup when checking a different model. For this frame’s installation pattern, give your stringer the current Yonex model sheet rather than a diagram for another EZONE.
Yonex’s shortlist, your priorities
The recommended options include two constructions
Yonex names all three strings below for the EZONE 100. Their inclusion is a manufacturer recommendation, not proof that one is best for every owner. The 1.25 mm versions provide a clearly identified starting comparison.
| String | Verified construction | A useful reason to test it |
|---|---|---|
| POLYTOUR PRO 125 | 1.25 mm polyester monofilament. | An identified poly reference when full poly already suits your game. Judge your ability to swing normally and repeat depth. |
| POLYTOUR STRIKE 125 | 1.25 mm polyester monofilament. | A same-diameter alternative if you want to compare another poly. Test its later-life response; a maker’s retention claim is not a guarantee of your playable hours. |
| REXIS SPEED 125 | 1.25 mm multifilament containing nylon and polyester, with Yonex’s listed resin system. | A different construction when easy depth and feel matter more than frequent breakage. Its polyester constituent does not make it a conventional full-poly monofilament. |
“Comfort” on a product page is positioning, not an injury-prevention promise. If you have not established a need for full poly, start with the polyester decision guide. You can also compare other brands; matching the string logo to the racquet is optional.
Start with room to learn
Do not use maximum tension as a power-control shortcut
The 45–60 lbs range is not a recommendation to start at 60 lbs. A usable existing string job is your best reference. If you have none, discuss an initial full-poly trial at 50 lbs (22.7 kg), or a full-multifilament trial at 54 lbs (24.5 kg), subject to the string’s instructions and your stringer’s advice.
These are our practical starting settings, not results from an EZONE optimization study. Keep the initial request simple; an automatic cross-tension percentage is not established by the listed range. For a hybrid, specify both products and agree on separate main/cross settings using the hybrid guide.
If your normal rally ball repeatedly runs long with a fresh, otherwise suitable setup, compare the same string and diameter at a small higher setting on the next job. For example, a 50-to-52 lbs (22.7-to-23.6 kg) poly comparison changes the requested tension without introducing a new product. If depth is difficult, a 50-to-48 lbs (22.7-to-21.8 kg) comparison goes the other way. Keep both settings within the frame and string guidance.
Do not mistake an old string job, different balls or a timing problem for evidence that the EZONE needs a stiffer material. Change the variable that matches the problem you can repeat.
Depth without steering
Use three shots to judge the setup
For an all-court player, a setup that reins in one hard forehand but makes every defensive ball laborious is a compromise worth noticing. Use the following tasks in comparable sessions; they are a practical test, not a validated skill score.
- Neutral rally: aim at a generous deep target with your ordinary swing. Record short, useful-depth and long outcomes. Note whether you are shortening the swing just to keep the ball in.
- Blocked return: use a comfortable incoming pace and a repeatable compact action. Compare depth and directional confidence, not a single spectacular return.
- Transition volley: approach and play a controlled first volley. Check whether touch and depth remain predictable when you cannot take a full swing.
Repeat after additional playing time and compare notes with the first session. Use the printable playtest scorecard for both immediate response and useful life. The ITF’s explanation of stringbed mechanics supports considering tension and geometry together; it does not predict an individual player’s landing depth.
Keep the winning combination reproducible
Record the exact version and both settings
Write down the frame code, product and diameter, mains/crosses, stringing date and requested settings. Add the first comparable reading and the interval after stringing. A later acoustic reading is not expected to reproduce the stringing-machine setting.
For example: “08EZ100, full POLYTOUR PRO 125, 50 lbs (22.7 kg), agreed installation method; compare neutral-rally depth and blocked returns.” Put the full request on the stringer briefing card.
If you own a second EZONE, give it a separate record and use it in practice. The same frame label and requested tension do not establish an identical current response. Follow the two-racquet preparation checklist before trusting it as a match backup.
Quick answers
EZONE 100 String Setup: FAQ
Which EZONE 100 generation does this guide cover?
The eighth-generation, standard-length, 300 g unstrung EZONE 100 with a 16×19 pattern. Yonex’s global item code is 08EZ100; its US page lists EZ08100. Other EZONE head sizes, lighter models, extended models and older generations should be checked separately.
What is the official EZONE 100 tension range?
Yonex publishes 45–60 lbs for this eighth-generation model, approximately 20.4–27.2 kg after conversion. The range does not mean that the top end is the best starting point. Use the exact frame and string instructions and an existing successful setup where available.
Does the EZONE 100 need polyester to control its power?
No. Yonex’s own recommendations include REXIS SPEED, a multifilament, alongside POLYTOUR PRO and POLYTOUR STRIKE. Choose poly because its trade-offs fit your game and maintenance, not simply because a racquet is marketed for power. Test depth and response with your normal swing.
Should I automatically lower the crosses in a Yonex racquet?
Do not apply an unsupported percentage rule to every Yonex frame. Follow the current instructions for the exact model and chosen strings, and agree on main and cross settings with your stringer. A hybrid is a separate configuration; record its products, orientation and settings explicitly.

What the evidence supports
The manufacturer sources establish published specifications and product construction. They do not supply a controlled comparison of these strings in this frame for club players. The trial settings and practice sequence below are our interpretation for a repeatable test; brand performance language is not treated as a measured player outcome.
